To reduce hunger in Central Pennsylvnia, with the ultimate goal of ending hunger in the area. The mission is pursued primarily by soliciting, warehousing, processing and distibuting nurtricious food and grocery products to a network of community organizations that directly serve people who are hungry. The Food Bank is also committed to increasing public awareness and understanding of the hunger problem.

The Central PA Food Bank needs help in preparing food for distribution. Messiah Volunteers should know the following:
- Low Committment (great trip for new volunteers)
- Messiah groups go on evenings and weekends
- Trips go out 2-3 times a month
History
The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank has been dedicated to ending hunger for more than 20 years. The Food Bank started as a one-day demonstration project on World Food Day in 1981, and to address the needs of hungry families began permanent operation on October 16, 1982. Originally, the Food Bank was located in a converted movie theatre in teelton. Today, the Food Bank's current 43,000 square foot warehouse is almost 40 percent large than the original Steelton facility. The need for food assistance has risen 70% since the Food Bank first opened. The Board of trustees and all workers are community volunteers. Currently the supply thousand of families everyday with nutrition and nourishment that they need.
