Center For Champions

Mission Statement

The Center for Champions of PA is an outreach to inner-city, atrisk
families using a holistic approach that addresses the mind,
body and spiritual needs of the individuals we serve. They
are committed to changing the city for Christ one family at a
time. Considering the needs and interests of the children, teens,
young adults and parents they serve, they use various programs
that are of interest to them and that also build skills, selfconfidence,
faith, good moral character, destiny and hope for the
future.

History

Seeing Harrisburg’s growing problems with teen violence, child
abuse, drugs, and struggling school system led Denise and Bonnie
to open Center for Champions in 1998. Starting with an after
school program for 17 elementary students, the ministry has
grown to include youth, young adults, and parents. Today they
reach out to over 100 people through after school programs, creative
arts, and basketball tournaments. Despite the financial lure,
they have repeatedly turned down government funds since acceptance
would mean they could no longer teach about Jesus.

Volunteer Options
Currently, Messiah helps with CFC’s After School Program.
They have teams which volunteer on Mondays and Wednesdays
from 4:00-5:45p.m. Volunteers typically choose one day
to volunteer each week. If interested in one-on-one tutoring,
there is the option of staying until 6:15. There is also a need
for students to volunteer on Tuesdays. Please contact Harmonie
Robinson if interested.

grades 1-12th. Includes tutoring, field trips, computer use, community

History & Overview
Founded in 1983, New Hope Min. is a Christian social service agency with assistance centers in Dillsburg, Dover and Mechanicsburg. From these centers, New Hope provides emergency crisis assistance, food pantries, counseling, and
referral services to local low-income families and individuals. In addition to “basic needs” assistance, they provide ongoing support and guidance to enable clients to achieve long-term stability and self-sufficiency. Assistance is provided
to over 5,000 individuals from 1,800 different families each year. In addition, New Hope provides children and youth programs for approximately 350 socially and financially disadvantaged young people each year. Through structured club
programs and special activities, New Hope strives to provide a safe, nurturing environment for "at-risk" youth and to help these young people break the cycle of poverty and dependency. New Hope’s desire is to make a difference in their lives NOW before they are too heavily influenced by their negative environment.
