Health and Safety
Some internship sites are now requiring medical examinations, CPR training, and verification that students have no communicable diseases such as tuberculosis. Students are responsible for scheduling medical examinations and all required tests prior to the beginning of their internship and for making sure exam / test results are forwarded to the appropriate person at the internship site. The following booklet lists the types of training offered for free to students by the Messiah College Dept. of Safety -

Because processing of these background checks takes up to 90
days, you must act on these one semester ahead of when you plan to do an
internship. If you have secured an internship site, find out who is
responsible to submit the clearances listed below - you or the site.
PA Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 33/151) and...
PA State Police Request For Criminal Record Check (Act 34)
http://www.dpw.state.pa.us/ServicesPrograms/ChildWelfare/003671038.htm
FBI Clearance (for Out-of-State Residents only)
Applicants who have not been residents of Pennsylvania for two years
immediately preceding the internship must also obtain a criminal background
check from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Fingerprint cards and detailed information may be found at: http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cjisd/fprequest.htm. Contact Gary Lippert in the Public Safety Office (x7146) for an appointment to get your fingerprints taken for free. Allow eight (8) weeks for the FBI to process your request.
