Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Who do I talk to about an internship?
Before you speak with anyone, be sure to read the Student section of this website completely. After you have read these pages and have a general understanding of what is involved with an internship, contact the Internship Center at x5099 or stop by the Center, which is located in the Eisenhower Campus Center Commons across from the Campus Store.
How do I register for class?
1) After securing an internship site, you must completely fill out the Registration for Academic Credit form available in the Internship Center or on this website.
2) After submitting the Registration for Academic Credit form to the Internship Center, we will email the Registrar, who will add the credits to your schedule.
3) Philadelphia campus students planning Spring internships must conclude this process by January 15.
4) Internship class at Grantham meets Tuesdays from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
When is the Internship Class held?
The monthly and weekly class are held on Tuesdays from 5:30-7:30 p.m. They are held in the evening because students are at their internship sites during the day. Please check with the Internship Center to confirm the day and time. Note: If you are unable to attend the class on the scheduled day and time, you cannot participate in an academic internship. You may wish to consider registering for a practicum.
Does my employer need to sign anything?
They do not need to sign anything prior to you registering for credit. After the Internship Center receives and processes your registration for credit, we will send a letter of confirmation and a memo of understanding (which they will need to sign) to the site supervisor you have listed on the form.
How many credits can I earn in the summer?
You may earn anywhere from 1-10 credits through a Professional Development Experience (PDE - 1-3 credits) or an Internship (INTE394 - 4-10 credits). Please check the full listing of hours and credits in the Internship and Professional Development Experience sections of the internship webpages.
How can I get paid for an internship?
Employers - Approximately 50% of internships are paid, but we always encourage site sponsors to compensate students where, and when, possible.
Community Service Work Study - If you are eligible for financial aid and are working in an organization which serves poor or marginalized populations, you may be eligible to receive a small amount of assistance through Community Service Work Study (CSWS) funds.
