The Partnership Under Dr. Robert Reyes (1996 - Present)
Director Reyes was invited to speak at a conference on "Breaking the Cycle of Drugs, Alcohol Abuse and Violence" sponsored by the Governor's Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs.
Conducted a research study with Latino migrant families in an effort to better understand the relationships between acculturative stress, religious coping, and family patterns of interaction. As part of this research project, Dr. Reyes collaborated with members of the Pennsylvania State Department of Migrant Education (2001).
Director Reyes participated in a panel on racism for the television program Worlds Apart aired on WGCB-TV (1999).
Sponsored a Latino Pastors Conference at Messiah which included sessions by Dr. Isaac Canales from Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, CA. Pastors from Harrisburg, Lancaster, and Philadelphia attended the conference (1998).
Conducted a day long workshop on "Marital Communication" for Latino families in Lancaster, PA. The workshop was sponsored by the Alpha and Omega Life Center in the city (2002).
Director Reyes was invited by members of Senator Specter's office to form part of a panel of Latino leaders from Central Pennsylvania to discuss pressing issues affecting Latino families in this region of the state. The meeting was coordinated by the Center of Cultural Partnerships and it took place in the Federal Couthouse in Harrisburg (2002).
Met with the director of the Governor's Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs, Mr. Pedro Cortes, on several occasions during the summer of 2002 to gain new insights into some of the issues affecting the Latino Community in the state. During those times, Director Reyes participated in the following activities:
Met with representatives of the Lancaster School District to gain a better understanding of the educational issues affecting Latino students in that district
Met with representatives of the Spanish-speaking TV channel Univision.
Attended with Mr. Cortes the "Minority and Women Business Trade Fair" sponsored by the office of Equal Opportunity of the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.
Director Reyes was the keynote speaker for the 2002 Hispanic Heritage celebration for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.
Director Reyes was invited by the Milton Hershey School to form part of a panel discussion on the Latino family as part of their 2002 Hispanic Heritage celebration.
Conducted a workshop for mental health professionals on the topic of "Therapeutic Strategies in Treating Latino Families." The workshop was part of a day long conference on diversity training sponsored by the Lancaster Mental Health Association (2002).
