Women’s History Month
Thursday, March 1- Saturday, March 31, 2007 "Generations of Women Moving History Forward" Sponsored by Gender Studies Project Mission: To recognize the wisdom and tenacity of the generations of women who have come before us and those who will follow. This month will include film, presentations and discussions which will encourage the community to celebrate the courage, determination and steadfastness of women from our past and our present both in the U.S. and internationally. Friday, March 2 Human Rights Fair 8am-5pm Eisenhower Commons Saturday, March 3 Nathaniel Gadsden's Writers Wordshop Women's History Celebration For the month of March we are having a Celebration of Women's History Month. Tuesday, March 13 Discussion and Film: The Gender Chip Project This film is a rare and subtle portrait of five extraordinary young women attending Ohio State University in Columbus who take up the challenge to succeed in fields which are now only reluctantly accepting of women. The documentary reveals how women are finding new ways to honor their own growth, motivations and experience as they imagine how to make the science and technology workplace a comfortable environment. 7pm, B130 Co-sponsored by the Society for Women Engineers, the Career Center, and the Gender Studies Project Wednesday, March 14 Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Gender and the Media Although Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended its run in 2003, its presence made a significant impact on not only its audience, but the academic community as well. Among many themes addressed by the series, that of gender roles is significant. Buffy has challenged traditional media representation of women and men, empowering new conceptions of social order. Presentation by Robin Lauermann 7:00-8:00pm, Fry 150 Co-sponsored by the Department of Politics and the Gender Studies Project Tuesday, March 27 Discussion and Film: Running In High Heels Description: This film follows the last months of the campaign of Emily Csendes, the 29-year old that ran for State Senate in New York's 29th District. Interspersed with Emily's story are interviews with notable women from the left and right of the American political spectrum as they try to explain how women are the majority of the population at 52% but are underrepresented in government and politics.
