Messiah College Graduate Program in Education
Not all graduate students want or need an advanced degree. Messiah College’s Graduate Program in Education provides students with several certificates and PA certifications to help meet their educational needs and expectations. Our graduate-level courses and certificates provide educators with professional development resources and advanced educational opportunities for those who are seeking personal enrichment through continuing education.
All coursework for our certificates and certifications are offered online to provide convenience and flexibility to working graduate students.
Messiah College Graduate Level Certificates in Education
Messiah College Certificate in Autism Spectrum Disorders* This option is designed for individuals with a desire to learn more about teaching children and adolescents with autism. This may include those who teach in private schools, teach abroad, and those who work with individuals with ASD and their families in ministry, law, business, medicine or social service agencies.
Messiah College Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)* This option is for students who want to work in a variety of English-teaching contexts and who don't need to earn the PA ESL Program Specialist Certification. This may include private school teachers, non-PA teachers, those teaching in international schools or those teaching in non K-12 settings.
Graduate Level PA State Certification Programs
Autism Spectrum Disorders Endorsement (PDE, K-12)* Designed for PA certified teachers (Levels I and II in all content areas) who want to develop the specific skills and competencies necessary to support and educate students with autism spectrum disorder. Students who successfully complete the coursework and field hours can obtain the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) Autism Spectrum Disorders Endorsement.
English as a Second
Language Program Specialist (PDE, K-12)*
This option is for students who hold any current Pennsylvania teaching
certificate in any content area, who are interested in coursework that
instruction in teaching English Language Learners (ELLs) and leads to
Pennsylvania ESL Program Specialist Certification. In some cases
teachers who hold a certificate from a state other than PA may be able
to earn certification in their home state. It is recommended that
students contact their state's Department of Education and review the
Special Education Certification (PDE, PreK-8) Designed for teachers who hold current PA instructional certification in early childhood, elementary, middle grades, K-12 or Reading Specialists who want to develop the specific skills and competencies necessary to support and educate students with special needs. Students who successfully complete this graduate level coursework and field hours can apply to obtain the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) Certification in Special Education (PDE, PreK-8).
Special Education Certification (PDE, Grades 7-12) Designed for teachers who hold current PA instructional certification in 7-12, K-12, or Reading Specialists who want to develop the specific skills and competencies necessary to support and educate students with special needs. Students who successfully complete this graduate level coursework and field hours can apply to obtain the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) Certification in Special Education (PDE, Grades 7-12).

Did you know that undergraduate courses from PDE approved programs may be used to fulfill post-baccalaureate course requirements for PDE certification? If you are ready to earn an add-on PDE certification or endorsement in special education (PreK-8 or 7-12), ESL or autism spectrum disorders, talk with our graduate program director to see if prior, relevant coursework qualifies.
