Rich Boy Finds Jesus can be Real in His Life

I am a physics teacher at Messiah College. I came to faith when I was a first year student at MIT. The prayer I prayed to open my life to Jesus Christ started a communication and fellowship with Him that has been a key factor in my life.

I look to Him as I did when I was with a guide in learning to kayak. I seek His guidance. It is not always clear. There have been hard times. But through it all I believe I can say, "The Lord is my strength and my song." [Yes, I play the baritone ukelele for personal enjoyment.]

My background is unusual. My parents were rich and my dad a very famous collector of American Literature, especially first editions and manuscripts. My dad was a moral person but he must have had a bad experience with the local church. I was brought up in a home with little love and plenty of drinking.

I was sent to the local cathedral but I learned almost nothing. I came back to my fraternity house at MIT to find some men speaking about their Christian faith. I could see in them something alive and inviting. That night I prayed with one of the men to allow Jesus to forgive my sins which were many and to come into my life.

I worked for only four employers [including 2.5 years with Boeing Aircraft designing tools for a space vehicle called DynaSoar] and have stayed here at Messiah College for 38 years. It is a joy and patience enabler to work with college students. It has been very rewarding!
