Why I Teach
|
Michael Cosby, distinguished professor of New Testament and Greek at Messiah, says that as an undergraduate he would have laughed if anyone told him he would become a teacher. His goal was to be a big-game biologist. Through his involvement in InterVarsity Christian Fellowship campus ministry, however, Cosby found an unexpected adventure. “I gained a love for detailed Bible study that has become a lifelong passion,” he says. As people encouraged him to get further training in the Scriptures, Cosby eventually changed his plans and completed a doctorate to become a college professor. Today, he says, “I teach because of my love for students and for biblical studies. Instead of working on a wildlife refuge, I study books in my office and lead students on safaris into the foreign country of the Bible.” |
