Autism Spectrum Disorders Endorsement (PDE, K-12)
Designed for PA certified teachers (Levels I and II in all content areas) who want to develop the specific skills and competencies necessary to support and educate students with autism spectrum disorder. Students who successfully complete the coursework and field hours can obtain the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) Autism Spectrum Disorders Endorsement.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, an estimated one in 50 American children has some form of ASD. With this rising prevalence, you are sure to have students in your classroom with an autism spectrum disorder, if you have not already. Beyond that, there are increasing numbers of students in classrooms with complicated or unfamiliar behavioral needs. This four-course, 12-credit specialization features coursework designed to prepare teachers in all content areas to effectively teach the rising number of students with unique needs in any K-12 school.
This program will provide you with an increased understanding of the underlying, everyday challenges faced by students with ASD; research-based instructional and assessment strategies; information about effective behavioral supports; strategies for supporting and enhancing social competencies; and resources and strategies for supportive interaction with families.
Teachers can begin the online program in August and earn their endorsement by May.
