Journalism

depart of comm - Sariabc27513Messiah’s journalism major brings print and broadcast journalism together into one progressive program that reflects today’s multimedia journalism careers. You’ll learn how to gather news, write it, film it, and disseminate it across print, broadcast, and online media platforms.

As a journalism major, you’ll:

  • Hone writing and reporting skills through courses such as audio-visual newsgathering and multi-media storytelling to prepare for a career in the changing, converging landscape of the journalism field
  • Apply your journalism skills on campus through required practica with The Pulse: Media Hub, which includes The Swinging Bridge campus newspaper,  Pulse FM 90.7 radio (with a 20-mile broadcast radius) and Channel 13 TV, as well as off-campus through a variety of internship opportunities in local and regional publications and electronic media outlets. Some students also choose to spend a semester at the CCCU's Washington Journalism Center in Washington, DC, where they develop hard-news writing skills while studying the role of Christians in the media.
  • Work and learn in our growing facilities (with renovations currently underway) using leading-edge technology and equipment
  • Consider declaring a minor to help develop knowledge in fields for which you may wish to write
