Multicultural Programs (MP) fosters opportunities to enhance relationship among students, leaders in student multicultural organizations, and the overall community.
The Core is composed by all the presidents from our multicultural student organizations. The objective of the core is for the MP office to provide support and guidance to all presidents. Leadership can be a tasking but rewarding experience and MP commits to walking along student leaders and their experiences. The core will meet with MP staff on a monthly basis.
MP also provides two leadership trainings available to leaders in the multicultural student organizations. These trainings mission are to foster the student leader’s understanding of their differences, their shared values, and commitments to enable them to work together for their benefit and our campus community.
Leadership training – Fall semester
The Leadership training was designed to give students in leadership positions the opportunity to talk about their shared experiences, and to critically examine "isms" that relate to living in a diverse and global community.
Sankofa trainings – end of spring semester
Sankofa is an Akan word that means, one must look back to learn from the past in order to move forward in a healthy and productive manner. It also suggests that we must go back and reclaim our past so we can move forward; so we understand why and how we came to be who we are today. This transition retreat allows for outgoing leaders to pass along their shared knowledge to the incoming students to enhance the organizational sustainability.
