College Honors Program

Looking for an academic challenge?

Our College Honors Program (CHP) exemplifies Messiah’s commitment to academic excellence and scholarship by fostering an intellectually vibrant Christian worldview. In the CHP, students share camaraderie with fellow student-scholars through compelling interdisciplinary courses, lectures, films, theatre performances, concerts and field trips.

The CHP is designed for students who demonstrate high academic ability combined with leadership and involvement and rewards them for their academic successes and experiences. Consideration for admittance into the program occurs during the senior year of high school.

Admission to the program is highly competitive and students selected for the College Honors Program receive either first-year full tuition (Trustees') or significant partial tuition (President's or Provost's) scholarships.

The CHP provides enhanced learning opportunities in and outside of the classroom without adding additional curricular requirements to the student’s course of study. Opportunities include:

  • a series of interdisciplinary honors courses which satisfy selected general education requirements;
  • invitation to attend various Honors Congress enrichment events designed for CHP members; and
  • an honors research project, typically completed during the senior year at Messiah.

CHP admission requirements

There is no separate application for the College Honors Program. To be considered for membership in the CHP, students must:

  • Complete their application for admission to Messiah College by Jan. 15 of their senior year of high school.
  • Receive, at minimum, a 1360 SAT (SAT scores prior to March 1, 2016, will be converted to the new SAT scale - converter) or a 29 ACT score or higher.
  • Receive a 3.9 GPA or higher.

Selected students who have met the initial qualifications described above are invited to interview during Scholarship Days. At the conclusion of the interview process, students will be notified of the results and will find out in early March if they have been accepted into the CHP. Approximately 100 students are admitted into the program each year.

(Qualified international students will have the option to interview via Skype or possibly in-person with our director of international and transfer admissions if she happens to be in their home country. There is also travel grant assistance for some domestic students.)

For more information about CHP, please contact either Dean Curry, program director, or your admissions counselor.
