Early Arrival Information

Information for Faculty & Staff who are sponsoring a student as an early arrival: 

1. Supervisors and advisors will be asked to bring students back at the latest possible date to allow maximum time for staff to prepare for their arrival.
2. To sponsor students for an early arrival please email names, date of arrival and reason for early arrival to housing@messiah.edu.  Please submit early arrivals by July 1, 2023. Any additions to the list after August 1 are charged a late fee. Faculty/Staff can pass this charge on to the students or can pay for it out of departmental budgets.  No requests will be granted after August 9, 2023.

Expectations of a sponsor of an early arrival student:

• Oversees or supervises the student’s on-campus involvement during the early arrival time.
• The Residence Life staff is not trained and in place for early arrivals.  As a result, it is critical for the sponsor to be a regular presence with their early arrival students and ensure that the Messiah Code of Conduct is being upheld.
• If a sponsored student would violate the Code of Conduct the sponsor would be called upon to partner with the Residence Life staff to address the behavior and the consequences.
• If a student's request to return early is late the sponsor will either pay the late fee or pass it on to the student to pay.
• Meals are not provided for early arrival students.  Sponsors can pay for meal cards for students to eat in the campus dining facilities or can communicate to the early arriving students that they are on their own for meals.
• Sponsors are responsible to let their students know the established check-in times.  The Department of Safety will not distribute keys or open doors for students who do not check-in during the scheduled check-in hours.
• In cases of emergency, students should be advised by sponsors to contract the Department of Safety.  Sponsors should also assist in communication between the college, student, and family, if necessary.
