Graduate Assistant positions for 2024 - 2026.

You must be accepted to one of the degrees within the Graduate Program in Higher Education Leadership (Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership or Higher Education Leadership) to be considered as a graduate assistant (GA) candidate.

Please note on your personal statement of purpose that you will be applying for a Graduate Assistantship. As noted below, positions are offered on the Messiah campus as well as at partner institutions. Graduate Assistants work on various campuses while enrolled in the graduate program in higher education leadership through Messiah.

Admissions Traveling Recruiter Graduate Assistant (Messiah University campus)

The Traveling Recruiter will spend the majority of time traveling to college fairs, high schools, and meeting with prospective students at events off-campus during the fall semester. The Recruiter will share the Messiah University story with prospective students and their families with the goal to grow a strong inquiry pool. When not traveling, this position will support the admissions team administratively (information sessions during visits, event days, student phoning, special projects, etc.). This is a two year appointment not to exceed 800 hours a year. Hours will be irregular based on travel during the week (not to exceed 39 hours per week in the fall, balance of hours will be completed in the spring). [Messiah University campus]

Athletics Marketing and Game Promotions Graduate Assistant (Messiah University campus)

POSITION FILLED for 2024-2026

Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Athletics, the graduate assistant will perform duties related to the Athletics Department strategic plan including game promotion, marketing and sponsorships.

This is a two year, 20 hours/week, appointment not to exceed 800 hours/year. Commitment runs from approximately August 1st - May 28th each of the two years.

Basketball [Men's] Graduate Assistant (Messiah University campus)

Under the supervision of the Men’s Basketball Coach, the graduate assistant will perform duties related to the Men’s Basketball Program and serve as an active member of the Men’s Basketball Coaching staff. This is a two year commitment that runs from approximately August 1 – May 30 each of the two years.

Campus Ministries Graduate Assistant (Messiah University campus)

The Office of Campus Ministries creates opportunities for students to engage in meaningful Christian worship, discipleship, and spiritual formation. Position Summary: The Graduate Assistant / Residence Director is a live-in, professional employee whose responsibilities include furthering the overall mission of the University, fostering holistic living-learning environments through the recruitment, selection, training, supervision and evaluation of 6-7 undergraduate student staff members, administration of up to 345 residents in two upper class living apartment buildings, serving as an active member of the Residence Life team, collaboratively implementing and assessing programs achieved through a developmental and educational approach to assure excellence in meeting student learning outcomes and services. Student Success and Retention Graduate Assistant (Messiah University campus)

THIS POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED FOR 2024-2026

The Graduate Assistant for Student Success and Retention will be responsible for assisting the Office of Student Success with student success and retention initiatives/programs created to help undergraduate students persist at Messiah towards their degree.

The graduate assistant will primarily assist in overseeing the Soar Peer Mentoring Program which currently serves new first-year students. The graduate assistant will do this by supervising the Soar Peer Mentors, assisting with mentor training and Welcome Week activities, developing programming for mentees and mentors in conjunction with the Director of Student Success, responding to mentee concerns as needed, and performing program assessment. Additionally, this graduate assistant role will focus on outreach and intervention to students who are struggling at Messiah and meet with them to develop student success plans and connect them to resources. The graduate assistant will interface with these students by overseeing and responding to emails in the Student Success Office inbox, following up with students identified through Academic Updates as being “at-risk”, and by receiving student referrals from the Director of Student Success, Coordinator for Student Success, or other Messiah professionals. The graduate assistant will also assist in managing and creating office social media posts and marketing content. Finally, the graduate assistant will have opportunities to join meetings or committees as it relates to the role and individual’s professional interests.

The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following: some experience in leading and providing supervision to a group, excellent rapport building/ relationship skills, marketing/social media/design background or interest, flexibility/adaptability, organizational skills, skills in program execution or event planning, a collaborative spirit, the ability to research best practices and trends, and a desire to champion student success as it relates to Messiah’s institutional mission and the Office of Student Success’s purpose.

Women's Volleyball Graduate Assistant (Messiah University campus)
