Advanced Standing for Graduate School

A student can get their master's degree within a year

Typically it is a 30 credit program, 15 credits in the fall and 15 credits in the spring. Some grad programs, however, require a few summer classes prior to the fall semester. The advanced standing program is only good for the first five years upon graduation. After five years, it will take longer to receive your master's.

The Social Work Department had 11 students graduating in May 2017. Of those students, seven have been accepted to graduate school. Of the six, five of those students are going to top 25 MSW schools in the nation and include the University of Maryland (tied for 17th), the University of Pennsylvania (2 students - 12th), the University of Pittsburgh (10th) and Fordham University (2 students - tied for 22nd).  Given that acceptance rates are about 30-40% and there are about 300 M.S.W. programs in the nation, it is clear that our students are highly respected as we have had students from our department regularly accepted at these programs.
