Educational Area Program Review Calendar
Program Review Calendar
The Office of the Provost has established a five-year calendar for the educational program review. The pattern is for programs to be formally reviewed every five years [see below]. In most cases the calendar for review will be coordinated with any mandated external reviews. Thus, in those areas where there are accreditation reviews, these reports will function for the purposes of the educational program review and no further reviews will be necessary. The calendar also attempts to distribute educational program reviews so the burden does not fall too heavily on one area of the College in a given year (e.g., various academic departments in a School will not all be reviewed in the same year). The calendar indicates the school year in which the program review final report is due to the Dean (or Provost).
All program reviews will have a completion date of either October 1 or February 1, and the design plan for each review must be approved no later than one year prior to the completion date. Within these two parameters, departments are free to develop their own timelines that fit the departmental rhythms, personnel/personalities, and other department responsibilities (e.g., accreditation/self-studies, etc.). Thus, the actual working calendar for each unit will vary from unit to unit. As program units develop their own program specific calendars, they should give attention to (1) the timing of activities required to prepare for the review (e.g., assign leadership roles, develop assessment strategies, develop the design plan, etc.), and (2) the timing of activities required to actually conduct the review (e.g., identify when the outside consultant will be used, determine the summer, determine writing, schedule, etc.). The approved design plan should include a calendar for conducting the review.
