Civil War Museum: www.nationalcivilwarmuseum.org The only museum in the United States that portrays the entire story of the American Civil War. Equally balanced presentations are humanistic in nature, without bias to either confederate or union causes. Located at Reservoir Park in Harrisburg.
Gettysburg National Military Park: www.nps.gov/gett The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War, the Union victory in the summer of 1863 that ended General Robert E. Lee's second and most ambitious invasion of the North. Often referred to as the "High Water Mark of the Confederacy", it was the war's bloodiest battle with 51,000 casualties. It also provided President Abraham Lincoln with the setting for his most famous address. Located 30 miles south of downtown Harrisburg.
ArtsFest: www.harrisburgarts.org Sponsored by the Greater Harrisburg Arts Council and held Memorial Day Weekend, May 23-25, 2009, this juried arts festival has over 275 venders, two music stages, a film fest, activities for kids, and over 45 food booths. Located on the Susquehanna Riverfront, just one block from the Hilton hotel, admission is free.
Harrisburg Senators Baseball: www.senatorsbaseball.com Located on City Island, in the middle of the Susquehanna River, enjoy an evening of double A baseball under the lights at Commerce Bank Park. A short 10-minute walk from the Hilton. $5.00 general admission.
The Pennsylvania State Capitol: Located at N. Third and State Street, just two blocks from the Hilton, the capitol complex is open to the general public. If you would like a free tour, call the General Assembly's office at 800.868.7672 in advance, for reservations. You will need to allow 40 minutes for this tour. The Festival of Trumpets Concert will be held in the Capitol Rotunda.
