Friends of Murray Library

The Friends of the Library at Messiah College was formed in 1993 for the following purposes:

To stimulate interest in the collections and facilities of Murray Library.
To provide an opportunity for those interested in the library to participate in exhibits, programs, and volunteer activities.
To attract gifts of books, manuscripts, and other materials for the library's enrichment.
To encourage and receive financial contributions for needs beyond the library budget, such as building special collections.

View a PDF brochure for the Ruth E. Engle Memorial Collection of Children's Book Illustration (1.7MB). In addition to benefiting Messiah’s students, especially education and art majors, the Ruth E. Engle Memorial Collection is certain to delight all Library patrons and visitors to the campus and is expected to become a regional attraction. The Collection currently features 27 original artworks and the books for which they were created.
Special Collection Launched--Friends is funding a special collection of Canadian literature, with an initial focus on the fiction and poetry of major Canadian authors. This collection, like the Engle Collection, is unique to the region.

8th Annual Library Research Grants to be awarded--These competitive grants support academic research at other libraries for an independent study project or honor's thesis by Messiah students. Up to $750 per grantee will be awarded in November 2009 for the 2009-10 academic year. Application deadline: Wednesday, 4 November, 2009 Application details. Awards announced 18 November 2009.
