The Storyteller's Daughter / by Saira Shah |
This memoir tells the story of an Afghan woman who was raised in England and grew up listening to her father's stories of their homeland. As a journalist, she lived for a time in Pakistan, sneaking into Afghanistan to report on conditions during the Soviet occupation. She returned to Kabul in 2001 to report on conditions under the Taliban rule. This book powerfully illustrates the clash between expectations based on her father's stories and the harsh reality she experiences in Afghanistan. |
