Messiah
College announces new faculty
members for 20042005 academic year
|
GRANTHAM, Pa. (July 23, 2004) Messiah College announces its new
faculty members for the 20042005 academic year.
Bradley J. Genevro, assistant professor of music, has both a bachelor's
degree in music education and a master's degree in clarinet performance
and wind conducting from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and is expected
to earn a doctor of musical arts degree in wind conducting from the University
of North Texas this year. Genevro comes from Oklahoma State University,
where he was associate director of bands.
Damian G. Savarino, lecturer in music, has a bachelor's degree
in performance and music education from Ithaca College and a master's
degree from New England Conservatory of Music. Savarino comes from The
American Musical & Dramatic Academy in New York City, where he served
as a member of the voice faculty.
Tymberley A. Wittrig, assistant professor of theatre, has a bachelor's
degree in studio art from Goshen College and a master's degree in scenic
design and lighting design from Illinois State University. Wittrig was
most recently an assistant professor of scenic and lighting design at
Coastal Carolina University.
Debra Heath-Thornton, D.Ed., associate professor of sociology and
criminal justice, has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Rochester
Institute of Technology, master's degrees in education and criminal justice
from the State University of New York College at Buffalo and a doctor
of education degree in educational leadership from the University of Rochester.
Heath-Thornton comes from Roberts Wesleyan College, where she was an associate
professor and department chairperson.
Charles D. Jantzi, Psy.D., assistant professor in psychology, has
a bachelor's degree in psychology from Cedarville College, a master's
degree in clinical psychology from University of Dayton and a doctorate
of psychology in clinical psychology from Wright State University.
Amy E. Binkoski, assistant professor of nutrition and dietetics,
has a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Muhlenberg College and is
expected to complete a doctorate of philosophy in nutritional sciences
this year at The Pennsylvania State University, where she was most recently
a teaching assistant.
Michael J. Shin, assistant professor of biology, will join the
Messiah faculty in January 2005. Shin has a bachelor's degree in molecular
biophysics and biochemistry from Yale University and a master's degree
in general biology from New York University where he is expected to complete
his doctor of philosophy degree this year.
Richard W. Schaeffer, Ph.D., assistant professor of chemistry,
has a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Messiah College and a doctorate
of philosophy in chemistry from Temple University. Schaeffer was most
recently an assistant professor at Kutztown University.
Christy Stark Smith, instructor in nursing, graduated from St.
James Mercy School of Nursing and has a bachelor's degree in nursing from
Villa Maria College and master's degree in nursing from the University
of Pennsylvania.
Stephen E. Gallaher, D.Min., assistant professor of Christian ministries,
has a bachelor's degree in bible from Messiah College, an Master of Divinity
degree from Lancaster Theological Seminary and a doctorate of ministry
in evangelism from Perkins School of Theology. Gallaher is currently associate
pastor of youth ministry at the Camp Hill United Methodist Church.
Julian D. Guteirrez-Albilla, assistant professor of Spanish peninsular
literature, has a bachelor's degree in art history from University College
London and a master's degree in Hispanic languages and literatures from
University of California and is currently working on a doctorate of philosophy
at University of Cambridge.
Paula C. Makris, Ph.D., visiting assistant professor of English,
has a one-year appointment at Messiah. Makris has a bachelor's degree
in English literature and French literature from Indiana University and
a master's degree and a doctorate of philosophy in English and American
literature and language from Case Western Reserve University.
Timothy Shoettle, Ph.D., assistant professor of philosophy, has
a bachelor's degree from Yale University, a master's degree from University
of Michigan and a doctor of philosophy degree from University of California.
Shoettle most recently held a teaching assistantship at University of
California, Irvine.
Messiah College, a private Christian college of the liberal and applied
arts and sciences, enrolls more than 2,900 undergraduate students in 60
majors. Established in 1909, the primary campus is located in Grantham,
Pa., near the state capital of Harrisburg. A satellite campus affiliated
with Temple University is located in Philadelphia.
