GRANTHAM, Pa. (October 1, 2004) — Messiah College’s School of the Arts will present two performances of its annual Christmas concert this year along with a collaborative production of “Amahl and the Night Visitors.”

Christmas concert

The Department of Music will present its annual Christmas concert twice on Sunday, Dec. 5 – first in Harrisburg and second on the college’s Grantham campus. The first performance will be held at 4 p.m. in St. Lawrence Chapel, 110 State St. , Harrisburg . Admission to the concert is free, but a $10 donation is suggested. A second performance will be held at 8 p.m. in Hostetter Chapel, located on the college’s Grantham campus. For the campus concert, all tickets are unreserved seating and cost $6 for adults and $3 for students, children and senior citizens. To purchase tickets or for more information, contact the Messiah College ticket office at (717) 691-6036.

The Christmas concert will feature performances of sacred and secular holiday music favorites by the Messiah College Concert Choir, Brass Choir, Women’s Ensemble, Men’s Ensemble, Chamber Singers and Handbell Choir (campus concert only), as well as an audience sing-a-long. Program selections include “Salvation is Created” by Pavel Tschesnokoff, “Choral Fanfare” by Felix Mendelssohn and selections from “A Ceremony of Carols” by Benjamin Britten.

“Amahl and the Night Visitors”

Messiah College’s School of the Arts, the Little Theatre of Mechanicsburg and the Central Pennsylvania Youth Opera will present “Amahl and the Night Visitors,” an opera about a shepherd boy who is visited by three kings who are following a star and seeking a newborn king. Performances will be held on Friday, Nov. 26, and Saturday, Nov. 27, at 8 p.m. , and Sunday, Nov. 28, at 2:30 p.m. at the Little Theatre of Mechanicsburg, 915 South York St. , Mechanicsburg. Additional performances will be held on Friday, Dec. 10, and Saturday, Dec. 11, at 8 p.m. , and Sunday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. in Miller Auditorium, located in Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on Messiah College ’s Grantham campus. Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased after Tuesday, Nov. 16, by calling the Little Theatre of Mechanicsburg at (717) 766-0535, Monday through Friday between 6 and 8 p.m.
