Messiah College's Lost Films Society announces revised schedule for April and May

GRANTHAM, Pa. (March 11, 2005) – The Messiah College Lost Films Society, the on-campus film society sponsored jointly by the college’s department of communication and the Student Activities Board, has released a revised schedule for its Contemporary Film Series. The following movies will be shown Friday and Saturday evenings at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. (unless otherwise indicated) in April and May. All films will be shown in Parmer Cinema, Messiah College’s state-of-the-art screening facility, located on the ground floor of Boyer Hall on the college’s Grantham campus. Admission to each film is $1; tickets may be purchased at the door or by calling the college’s ticket office at (717) 691-6036.

Contemporary Film Series – April and May

“Finding Neverland” (2004) April 1 and 2, at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Johnny Depp stars as Sir James Matthew Barrie, the creator and author of Peter Pan. The Academy Award nominated movie tells the story of how Barrie meets four fatherless boys and their widowed mother (Kate Winslet) and how this family helped to inspire the story about children who never want to grow up.

“Coach Carter” (2005) April 8 and 9, at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Inspired by a true story, Samuel L. Jackson stars as a high school basketball coach who prohibits his undefeated team from playing important games during their 1999 season because of the students’ low academic scores.

“Spanglish” (2004) April 15 and 16, at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Paz Vega stars as Flor in this movie about a woman who emigrates from Mexico to the United States and begins working in the house of a famous chef (Adam Sandler) where she also lives with her daughter.

“In Good Company” (2004) April 22 and 23, at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. A comedy starring Dennis Quaid, who plays an ad executive who begins working for a man (Topher Grace) almost half his age – and who is dating his daughter (Scarlett Johansson).

“Hotel Rwanda” (2004) April 29 and 30, at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Based on a true story, this film stars Academy Award best actor nominee Don Cheadle as a hotel manager who opens up his business to more than a thousand Tutsis refugees as they battle the Hutu militia in Rwanda.

“The Aviator” (2004) May 6 and 7, at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. A five-time winner at this year’s Academy Awards, this movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio as the legendary director and aviator Howard Hughes in this Martin Scorsese film. Set in the 1920s to 1940s, the movie follows Hughes through the early years of his film career to his involvement in aviation. The film also features his Hollywood romances with Ava Gardner and Katherine Hepburn. Cate Blancett won best supporting actress for her performance as Katherine Hepburn in this film.
