Senior art students at Messiah College to present second of three exhibits

GRANTHAM, Pa. ( Mar. 24, 2005) — Messiah College’s visual arts department will present the second of three exhibits in April featuring the best work of its senior art students. “Senior Show II” will open April 14, with a reception for the artists on April 16 from 7 to 8 p.m., and continue through April 21 in the Aughinbaugh Art Gallery, located on the lower level of the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on the college’s Grantham campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

The exhibit will feature new works, in a wide variety of media, from seven senior art students. This show will include selections from Sonya Berg, of North Wales, in painting; Jane Ehle, of Annandale, Va., in painting; Juleen Hoyer, of Reading, in drawing and ceramics; Laura Kackos, of Macungie, in drawing; Joy Kampia, of Berwyn Heights, Md., in textiles; Raymond Neveil, of Long Beach Island, N.J., in graphics; and Veronica Sandoval, of Germantown, Md., in drawing and graphic design.

The third exhibit featuring senior students’ art will be held April 27 to May 4. All three “Senior Shows” contain work in a variety of media, created by students in Messiah’s studio fine arts program. Each graduating senior prepares a related body of work in the area of his or her studio concentration specifically for one of these exhibits.

Located on the lower level of the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on Messiah College’s Grantham campus, the M. Louise Aughinbaugh Art Gallery exhibits the work of internationally recognized artists from around the world, as well as faculty and students. Gallery programming supplements campus classroom instruction by bringing practicing artists to campus to demonstrate techniques in classes and by organizing special evening lectures and afternoon gallery talks. The gallery also functions as a hands-on teaching laboratory for students in the college’s course on museum studies. Aughinbaugh Art Gallery is open Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m.

Messiah College, a private Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences, enrolls more than 2,900 undergraduate students in 50 majors. Established in 1909, the primary campus is located in Grantham, Pa., near the state capital of Harrisburg. A satellite campus affiliated with Temple University is located in Philadelphia.
