CONTACT: Beth L. Lorow Messiah College Symphony Orchestra to perform annual spring concert
GRANTHAM, Pa. (April 1, 2005) — The Messiah College Symphony Orchestra will perform its spring concert on April 23 at 8 p.m. in Miller Auditorium, located in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on the college’s Grantham campus. The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call (717) 766-2511, extension 3310. Selections will include “Ancient Airs and Dances” by Respighi, “Gymnopedies” by Satie, “Two Hungarian Dances” by Brahms and “Marche Slav” by Tchaikovsky. These works will also be featured on the Messiah College Symphony Orchestra’s upcoming compact disc recording. The Messiah College Symphony Orchestra is under the direction of Timothy Dixon. Dixon currently serves as the assistant chair of the music department, as director of orchestral studies and as assistant professor of music at Messiah College. His courses include conducting and music history. He previously served as the conductor of the University of Iowa Philharmonic Orchestra and the Preucil School String Orchestra, an ensemble that has been featured on public radio and television as well as in international festivals and tours. Messiah College, a private Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences, enrolls more than 2,900 undergraduate students in 50 majors. Established in 1909, the primary campus is located in Grantham, Pa., near the state capital of Harrisburg.
