GRANTHAM, Pa. (April 11, 2005) — Author Lauren Winner will present two lectures at Messiah College on April 27 and 28. The first talk will be held on April 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Brubaker auditorium in the Eisenhower Campus Center on the college’s Grantham campus. The talk will be based on Winner’s new book, “Real Sex: The Naked Truth about Chastity” – which was released earlier this month. The second talk will address Christian vocation and will be held on April 28 at 9:45 a.m. in Miller auditorium in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center, also on the Grantham campus. The events are free and open to the public. For more information, please call (717) 766-2511, extension 7026.

Growing up a practicing Orthodox Jew, Winner wrote about her conversion to Christianity in her first book, “Girl Meets God” and about 11 spiritual lessons Judaism taught her in “Mudhouse Sabboth.” In her recently released book, “Real Sex,” the newly married 28-year-old again uses her personal experiences to discuss premarital and marital sex while integrating stories from American Christians about abstinence. She also provides a summary of what Christian resources say about sex and looks at how chastity was practiced throughout Christian history.

Winner, the former book editor for Beliefnet, has appeared on PBS’s “Religion & Ethics Newsweekly” and has written for “ The New York Times Book Review,” “The Washington Post Book World,” “Publishers Weekly” and “Christianity Today.” Her essays have been included in “ The Best Christian Writing 2000” and “ The Best Christian Writing 2002.” Winner has degrees from Columbia and Cambridge universities and is currently at work on her doctorate in the history of American religion.

Messiah College, a private Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences, enrolls more than 2,900 undergraduate students in 50 majors. Established in 1909, the primary campus is located in Grantham, Pa., near the state capital of Harrisburg. A satellite campus affiliated with Temple University is located in Philadelphia.
