CONTACT: Beth L. Lorow Messiah College to open its chapel to community for the National Day of Prayer GRANTHAM, Pa. (April 14, 2005) — The Hostetter Chapel on Messiah College's Grantham campus will be open on May 5 – the National Day of Prayer – for community members to join students and employees in observing a day of fasting and prayer. An evening service, including music, a speaker and organized prayer, will also be open to the public and held in the Hostetter Chapel from 7 to 9 p.m. For more information, please contact the College Ministries staff at (717) 691-6017. The National Day of Prayer is an annual event established in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. The observance of the National Day of Prayer is founded on the constitutional rights of freedom of speech and freedom of religion and can be celebrated by all Americans. Messiah College, a private Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences, enrolls more than 2,900 undergraduate students in 50 majors. Established in 1909, the primary campus is located in Grantham, Pa., near the state capital of Harrisburg.
