GRANTHAM, Pa. ( May 24, 2005) — Messiah College recently announced that Kathrynne G. Shafer, of Mechanicsburg, has been appointed as the college’s vice president of operations. Shafer will begin her new role June 1. As vice president of operations, Shafer will be responsible for many of her current duties as director of facilities and conference services. Under this title, Shafer has overseen the departments of building and property services, campus events, safety, and conference services. As vice president of operations, Shafer will also be responsible for supervising dining services, the campus bookstore, the press, faculty services and the Alley post office. The directors of each department will report to Shafer, she explained. “I expect a smooth transition,” said Shafer, “because of the really great people in management.” Shafer has been an employee of Messiah College since 1988, serving under several different titles and job descriptions, including conference coordinator and director of safety, event and facility services. Previous experiences and accomplishments include developing a centralized scheduling system, coordinating a 24-hour safety dispatch center and implementing the use of a campus-wide television information system. “I’m excited about working with the new president and her team,” Shafer said of newly-appointed President Kim Phipps. “And I’m excited to work with various departments in a way that helps Messiah College’s education process.” Shafer received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Messiah College and a master’s degree in management from Eastern University in Harrisburg. Messiah College, a private Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences, enrolls more than 2,900 undergraduate students in 50 majors. Established in 1909, the primary campus is located in Grantham, Pa., near the state capital of Harrisburg. A satellite campus affiliated with Temple University is located in Philadelphia. # # # ARTICLE DATE: TUESDAY, MAY 24, 2005 |
