Messiah College to present student recitals in November

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Oct. 27, 2005) — Messiah College will present six student recitals in November. The recitals will be held in Poorman Recital Hall, located in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on the college’s Grantham campus.

  • Senior, music education major Amanda Sachs of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., will present a student voice recital on Nov. 12 at 4 p.m. She will be accompanied by Rebecca Wilt on piano, and will also be assisted by Matthew Hansen, Rebecca Fuester and David O’Donnell. Amanda’s performance will include selections by Alessandro Scarlatti, J.S. Bach, Camille Saint-Saens and Johannes Brahms. In addition, 20 th Century works will include Chanson de Ronsard, a song cycle by Darius Milhaud, two arias from Douglas Moore’s “Ballad of Bay Doe,” and selected songs by Ricky Ian Gordon.
  • Amanda Heim will present a student saxophone recital on Nov. 12 at 8 p.m.
  • Senior, music education major Jessica Mengel of Fredericksburg, Pa., will present a student french horn recital on Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. Her recital will open with Reinhold Gliere’s “Concerto” in B flat major, Op. 91. Jessica will conclude the first portion of the recital with “Auf dem Strom” by Franz Schubert. In addition, she will perform “Sonata,” Op. 17 by Ludwig van Beethoven, a brass trio, and end with “Le Basque” by Marin Marais, a piece that was also used by the great horn virtuoso Dennis Brain as a recital closer.
  • Elisha Talley will present a student voice recital on Nov. 19 at 4 p.m.
  • Katie Hess will present a student voice recital on Nov. 19 at 4 p.m.
  • Lisa Cross will present a student voice recital on Nov. 19 at 8 p.m.

The recitals are free and open to the public, and a reception will follow the performances. For more information, call (717) 766-2511, extension 3310.

Messiah College, a private Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences, enrolls more than 2,900 undergraduate students in 50 majors.
