GRANTHAM, Pa. (Oct. 20, 2006) — Multi-platinum and three-time Grammy Award-winning band Jars of Clay will perform with special guest Matt Wertz at Messiah College on Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. Touring in support of their much-anticipated album, “Good Monsters,” Jars of Clay brings their unique mixture of pop, folk, rock and mild electronica to Brubaker Auditorium in the Eisenhower Campus Center on the college’s Grantham campus. About Jars of Clay Jars of Clay, comprised of vocalist Dan Haseltine, guitarists Matt Odmark and Stephen Mason and keyboardist Charlie Lowell, released “Good Monsters,” their seventh studio album, on Sept. 5 to rave reviews. Described by band members as a “real rock ‘n’ roll record,” “Good Monsters” has already been named “Album of the Year” by “CCM” magazine. Haseltine says the songs on “Good Monsters” reflect a transparency and immediacy the band has rarely incorporated into its other albums. “There’s more urgency in these songs. There’s more honesty,” he says. Other Jars of Clay albums include their self-titled debut in 1995, which produced the mainstream hit, “Flood;” Grammy Award winners “Much Afraid” in 1997; “If I Left the Zoo” in 1999; and “The Eleventh Hour” in 2002. In 2003, the band released a double-disc set, “Furthermore: From the Studio, From the Stage,” before experimenting a bit with bluegrass and gospel in the 2003 release “Who We Are Instead.” In 2005, Jars of Clay reworked a collection of old hymns for their seventh album, “Redemption Songs.” About special guest Matt Wertz With a voice described as soul-stirring, warm, and welcoming, 24-year-old Matt Wertz is enchanting fans with “Today & Tomorrow,” released in 2005, and two self-released albums, “Somedays” and “Twentythree Places.” About Messiah College Messiah College, a private Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences, enrolls more than 2,800 undergraduate students in 50 majors.
