GRANTHAM, Pa. (Nov. 20, 2006) — The Messiah College Cultural Series presents Cherish the Ladies, Celtic Christmas, in concert on Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. in Miller Auditorium in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center, located on the college’s Grantham campus. With this Irish traditional music sensation, Messiah College brings “Big-City Culture Just Minutes from Home” to central Pennsylvania. Tickets can be purchased for $20 by calling the Messiah College ticket office at (717) 691-6036. Literally the most successful and sought-after Irish-American group in Celtic music, Cherish the Ladies took their name from a traditional Irish jig. The group earned recognition as the first and only all-women traditional Irish band. With their unique, spectacular blend of virtuosi instrumental talents, beautiful vocals, captivating arrangements and stunning step dancing, this powerhouse group combines all the facets of Irish traditional culture. Cherish the Ladies has performed all over North and South America, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and New Zealand performing in prestigious concert halls, international festivals and even the White House. This celebrated and talented group of women has won numerous awards and world-renown including, Best Musical Group of the Year by the BBC, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall's International Group of the Year Award and a 1999 Grammy nomination for their collaboration with the Boston Pops Symphony on "Celtic Album.” The Cultural Series is a public, five-part annual performance series sponsored by Messiah College. In addition to Cherish the Ladies, concerts by acclaimed groups, Bay Street Brassworks on Feb. 23 and The Princely Players on March 2 will be held during the remaining 2006-2007 season. Messiah College, a private Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences, enrolls more than 2,800 undergraduate students in 50 majors. Established in 1909, the primary campus is located in Grantham, Pa., near the state capital of Harrisburg.
