GRANTHAM, Pa. (Feb. 8, 2007) — The Messiah College Cultural Series presents The Princely Players in concert on March 2 at 8 p.m. in Hostetter Chapel located on the college’s Grantham campus.  With The Princely Players’ soulful harmonies and moving dramatic presentations, Messiah College brings “Big-City Culture Just Minutes from Home” to central Pennsylvania.  Tickets can be purchased for $20 at the door or by calling the Messiah College ticket office at (717) 691-6036.

With songs and poetry from the earliest sources of African-American music, to the civil war and the civil rights movement, The Princely Players deliver outstanding performances that convey to audiences the power and dignity of the human spirit. This eight-member vocal ensemble tells the tale of the struggle against slavery and their pursuit of liberty and specifically performs songs about hope and the quest for freedom in titles such as “Amazing Grace,” “Swing Low Sweet Chariot” and “Wade in the Water.”

The Princely Players have been featured on National Public Radio and the BBC and have been heard on the Smithsonian's "Wade in the Water" series and the Time-Life Civil War recordings.  The group has also performed their unique program of spirituals, work songs, hymns and songs of freedom at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center, Yale University and Little Rock's Festival of Religious Arts, and have collaborated with Ladysmith Black Mambazo and the Nashville Symphony.

The Cultural Series is a public, five-part annual performance series sponsored by Messiah College. The Princely Players are the final performance of the 2006-2007 season.

Messiah College, a private Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences, enrolls more than 2,800 undergraduate students in 50 majors. Established in 1909, the primary campus is located in Grantham, Pa., near the state capital of Harrisburg. A satellite campus affiliated with Temple University is located in Philadelphia.
