GRANTHAM, Pa. (April 4, 2007) — Messiah College presents Mates of State, an indie rock duo known for their vocal harmony, shifting rhythms and quirky song structure, to perform in concert on April 27 at 8 p.m. in Brubaker Auditorium, located in the Eisenhower Campus Center on the college’s Grantham campus. Tickets are $10 for general admission; to purchase tickets, call the college ticket office at (717) 691-6036 or visit messiah.musictoday.com.

Mates of State formed in 1997 in Lawrence, Kansas, when band members Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel both left the band Vosotros and moved to California to start a duo project. After playing venues up and down the west coast, Gardner and Hammel quit their day jobs as a teacher and cancer researcher, began touring throughout the United States, Europe and Japan and got married in 2001. The band has released four albums: “My Solo Project,” which was listed in the “New York Times” as one of the best records you probably didn’t hear in 2000; “Our Constant Concern” in 2002; “Team Boo” in 2003; and “Bring it Back” in 2006. Following their latest release they spent the summer touring with Spoon and Death Cab for Cutie.

Messiah College, a private Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences, enrolls more than 2,800 undergraduate students in 60 majors. Established in 1909, the primary campus is located in Grantham, Pa., near the state capital of Harrisburg. A satellite campus affiliated with Temple University is located in Philadelphia.
