2007-2008 Cultural Series brings the Celtic music of Gaelic Storm to Messiah College

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Aug. 29, 2007) — Gaelic Storm, a Celtic music group celebrated internationally for their energy and unique talent, will perform at Messiah College on Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. in Miller Auditorium, located in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center on the college’s Grantham campus. The ensemble will present music from their recent recording, “Bring Yer Wellies.” This performance launches the first event in Messiah College’s 2007-2008 Cultural Series, an annual five-part program that brings world-renowned artists to the college throughout the academic year. Tickets to each concert are $23 and may be reserved by calling the Messiah College ticket office at (717) 691-6036.

About Gaelic Storm

Popularly known for their brief on-screen appearance in the blockbuster hit “Titanic” as “the party band” in the steerage scene, the dynamic Celtic group continues to delight audiences with their powerful stage presence. Their six albums have topped the world music charts on a repeated basis. Their tour list is impressive; the band averages over 125 performances a year, touring throughout the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France and Japan. The members of Gaelic Storm are Patrick Murphy on accordion, vocals and harmonica; Steve Twigger on guitar, vocals and bouzouki; Jessie Burns on the fiddle; Ryan Lacey on drums and world percussion; and Pete Purvis on tin whistle and bagpipes.

About the Cultural Series

The 2007-2008 season lineup of performers includes Alex de Grassi, Grammy-nominated guitarist, on Oct. 29; the Philadelphia Brass in a selection of holiday music on Dec. 10; Leon Bates and Borealis Wind Quintet, covering a broad range of styles from opera aria to piano and wind pieces on March 7; and Triple Play with leader Chris Brubeck, performing an eclectic collection of jazz, folk and classical on April 11.

Patrons wishing to purchase $100 season subscriptions may do so until Sept. 21 by calling the Messiah College ticket office at (717) 691-6036. Individual event tickets cost $23 each. All performances, unless stated otherwise, are held at 8 p.m. in Miller Auditorium in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center.
