Guest lecturer Susan Emmerich speaks at Messiah College about "Biblical Environmental Stewardship as a Ministry of Reconciliation"

GRANTHAM, Pa. (Oct. 10, 2007) — Susan Emmerich, founder and CEO of Emmerich Environmental Consulting, will lecture on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. in Poorman Recital Hall in the Climenhaga Fine Arts Center, located on Messiah College’s Grantham campus. Emmerich will speak about a biblical basis for community development and environmental stewardship. She will use case studies to illustrate her methodology of working within a community’s faith worldview to help them understand their responsibility towards creation’s care. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Emmerich, a 1997 Harvey Fellow and former assistant professor of biology at Trinity Christian College, also works as a consultant to The Center for Law and Culture.  She is widely recognized for her work in founding and directing the Tangier Watermen’s Stewardship for the Chesapeake, a non-profit organization, and is the co-producer of the Telly and Aurora award-winning PBS documentary on the Tangier Watermen’s Initiative, “Between Heaven and Earth: The Plight of the Chesapeake Bay Watermen.” Emmerich is also the co-producer of “When Heaven Meets Earth: Faith, Environment and Justice,” an hour-long film based on two faith-based stewardship initiatives she has implemented.

Messiah College, a private Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences, enrolls 2,800 undergraduate students in 55 majors. Established in 1909, the primary campus is located in Grantham, Pa., near the state capital of Harrisburg. A satellite campus affiliated with Temple University is located in Philadelphia.
