Steven J. Musser

In recognition of your significant service to Messiah College, the Alumni Association is pleased to honor you, Steven J. Musser, with the 2000 Alumni Appreciation Award.

Your connection to Messiah College began in 1977, when you joined Dr. Donald Zook to become the second faculty member in the management and business department. For 22 years, you were a model teacher, dynamic leader, outstanding mentor and faithful colleague. Your exceptional ability to provide theoretical understanding and practical insight, along with your caring and compassionate personality, helped you impact the lives of the countless students you taught. You always seemed willing to find an extra chair for a student - whether business major or not - desperate to join your filled courses. And no one could forget your investment of hundreds of counseling hours with students - in matters both academic and personal.

But your achievements go far beyond your teaching and rapport with others. You helped establish an ongoing relationship with a Christian college in Holland, resulting in annual international exchanges of students and professors. During your last two years at Messiah College, from 1997-1999, you were instrumental in birthing The Center for Leadership Development. Through your consulting, publications, presentations and symposia, you have shared your knowledge and understanding with scores of business leaders. These professional experiences, in addition to bringing much recognition to Messiah College and its management and business department, always served to fuel your enthusiasm and enhance your classroom teaching.

Along the way, Steve, you have also served as a faithful husband to Georgette and a loving father and grandfather. And you've overcome, with the Lord's help, several very difficult obstacles, including a serious battle with cancer. Those who have supported you through this time of pruning have seen God bring great fruit in your life. Your example of strong faith in the midst of trial has encouraged many. Recently, you've followed God's call to become Senior Associate Pastor at West Shore Evangelical Free Church in Mechanicsburg. The same character qualities that students and businesses sought in you for so many years are now blessing many lives in your congregation as you preach, teach and wisely counsel.

For your years of dedication to Messiah College and the Church, we give God the glory and praise, extending to you, Steven J. Musser, our sincere appreciation through this award.
