Alumni Christian Service AwardRecognizes a lifetime of faithful service. 2000 Recipient Donald R. Zook In recognition of your many years of faithful service in Christian Ministry, the Messiah College Alumni Association is pleased to honor you, Donald R. Zook, with the 2000 Alumni Christian Service Award. You stand as a shining example of using your God-given gifts to further His Kingdom. After graduating from Messiah/Upland in 1955, you served the Lord for 15 years overseas through a variety of roles with the Brethren in Christ Church in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Africa. Upon returning to the States, you pursued graduate degrees through Penn State and Temple Universities. You started the Management and Business program at Messiah College, serving for nearly a decade as department chair and professor of accounting. You also used your financial and accounting skills to guide students sitting for the CPA exam through your work as instructor and area director of the Person-Wolinsky CPA Review Courses. But your heart never strayed from missions. From 1982-1989, you held the position of Executive Director of the Brethren in Christ World Missions. And from 1989 until your retirement in 1999, you served the Brethren in Christ denomination in Stewardship Services and as CEO of the Jacob Engle Foundation. Don, in addition to your church and academic work, you made family a top priority, marrying Anna Ruth (Kline) and raising three children. You also volunteered time through civic and community organizations as well as in your local church body. One associate who is familiar with you and your years of service characterizes you as a "wise, thoughtful, and humble brother." Through your lifetime of bringing sound stewardship principles and the hope of Christ to a world which badly needs it, you have truly demonstrated to both Messiah alumni and current students what Christian service is all about. For that reason, we are pleased to honor you, Donald R. Zook, as a worthy recipient of this award. |
