Last First/First Friday
The First Friday and Last First events consist of class events for sophomore, junior, and senior Messiah students in celebration of their return to campus and the start of a new academic year. |
All Messiah seniors are encouraged to attend the “Last First” Ice Cream Social in honor of their last first day of an academic year in their undergraduate education. The event is hosted on the front lawn of the Climenhaga Homestead the evening of the opening day of fall classes. Seniors are welcomed back to campus with a free ice cream social, an opportunity to catch up with old friends, and a chance to meet and connect with unknown members of their senior class. Those in attendance are introduced and greeted by the senior class president followed by ice cream, socializing, and participation in back yard party games such as Can-Jam Frisbee toss, beanbag toss, hillbilly golf, bocce, etc. |

Sophomore Mugging starts in the early evening on the first Friday of fall classes. All incoming Messiah sophomores are personally invited by Eyas and President Phipps to attend a root beer float social at President Phipps’ home. Students arrive, receive their free Eyas sophomore mug, get unlimited refills of root beer floats all night long, and have a chance to see portions of President’s beautiful estate at Orchard Hill. Outdoor activities such as beanbag toss and bocce are accompanied by indoor activates in the President’s basement including ping pong, foosball, and air hockey. |

Two S’More Years is all about the juniors. Eyas welcomes all incoming juniors out to celebrate the halfway point of the undergraduate college experience with a bonfire on the south side of the swinging bridge. This event takes place late in the evening on the first Friday of fall classes. Juniors are encouraged to come to the bonfire, connect with friends, and meet other members of their future graduating class. Free s’mores will be available for as long as students want to cook them. |
