* 2003 HOMECOMING THEME
IS TRIBUTE TO FAMOUS ALUMNUS
The theme for Homecoming 2003 is "Equipped with knowledge and faith; Prepared to serve." Our theme is a tribute to the educational philosophy of alumnus Dr. Ernest Boyer ’48. Boyer was a champion for connecting the academy to the community, the intellect and the heart, education and service.

Boyer was a nationally recognized educator, serving as U.S. Commissioner of Education under President Jimmy Carter. He was serving as President of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching upon his death in 1995.

The new 95,000 square foot academic building being built on campus will be named Boyer Hall in his honor. Boyer Hall is expected to be dedicated on Friday of Homecoming weekend. It will house the Boyer Center, the School of Education and Social Sciences, and the School of Humanities.
