MBA Breakfast Topic: Sustaining Success
From 2000 to 2010, the combined record of the men's and women's soccer programs at Messiah College was 472-31-20. During that time, the women won three NCAA Division III national championships and incredibly, the men won eight.
What are some of their secrets to success? And how might they be applied to create effective teams in businesses, schools, churches and other organizations? You can now listen to an audio recording of a recent interview with the head coaches from the February 15, 2011 Messiah Business Alumni Association breakfast held in Harrisburg.
As a supplement to this recording, see also this pdf file of the teams' foundational principles.

Integrity in Public Life
All are invited to hear Derek Hathaway, O.B.E entrepreneur and philanthropist, to speak on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. in Hostetter Chapel. Mr. Hathaway retired in 2008 as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Harsco Corporation, one of the world’s leading diversified industrial services companies with businesses in construction, steel, energy and railways. He oversaw the growth of Harsco’s market capitalization from $250 million in 1994 to more than $5 billion upon his retirement, with 22,000 employees in 50 countries. As a native of the United Kingdom, Mr. Hathaway’s career began at the age of 16 when he left school to work as a junior draftsman at a Birmingham heating and engineering firm. By night, he took classes in mechanical engineering and management accounting. At 22, he co-founded a firm that manufactured industrial heating units. Six years later, his company went public and ultimately was acquired by Harsco. At the age of 40, Mr. Hathaway moved to the United States to work in Harsco’s headquarters near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Read More

Relay For Life, held every year on college campuses around the country, is a fundraising event to help the American Cancer Society raise more than $385 million dollars towards the ultimate goal of saving lives from cancer. As we are in the midst of fundraising and recruiting teams, it is our goal to see more alumni participate in this year’s event than in any previous year. We would love for you to be a part of Relay For Life. It is a fun and exciting night that you won’t want to miss! If you are interested in forming a team or in donating money, please go to www.relayforlife.org/pamessiahcollege. Join together as a Messiah College community (past and present) to CELEBRATE with those who have defeated cancer, to REMEMBER those who have lost their battle, and to FIGHT BACK with those who are still fighting cancer. Questions may be directed to Jana Balmer, Team Development Chair, at jb1490@messiah.edu. Thank you in advance for all that you will do to help us fight cancer this year.
