Messiah Alumni Asked to Assist Students Exploring Careers Messiah College recently developed the Messiah College Career Network as a way to assist student networking with alumni. The purpose of the network is to broaden students’ vocational awareness by connecting them with alumni who have experience in their areas of interest. If you are contacted by a Career Center staff person on behalf of a student, we hope you agree to participate. Students understand that they are not asking for employment, but are seeking feedback and information. Career Center Announces Job Fair in Philadelphia The Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce has joined forces with The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News to present a Career Fair like none other. This job fair is perfect for college graduates, graduate students, experienced professionals, and degreed military personnel returning to civilian life. It will be held on January 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Philadelphia Marriott. For more information, visit www.gpcc.com . Messiah Athletic Teams To Appear on CBS-TV Special With the remarkable accomplishments of our fall athletic teams, Messiah College has been showcased in the national sports media (ESPN, College Sports TV, and USA Today) in groundbreaking ways. Now, CBS Sports will present a television program highlighting NCAA Division II & III fall sports championships at 4 p.m. EST on Christmas Day. Three Messiah teams will be featured. Camera crews followed these teams throughout the playoffs so you’ll get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the action. The exposure has given coaches and athletes a great opportunity to present Messiah’s mission as a Christian college to the broader public. The quality and character of Messiah athletics is also evident to others, as communicated in the following e-mail recently received by men’s soccer coach, David Brandt: “Coach Brandt, I was the center official on your championship match Saturday. I usually do not contact a coach directly… but the sportsmanship of your kids was as good as any group I have ever officiated in the college game—anywhere—and this is my 18th season. That may take them yet further than winning the national championship. Regards, Griff Sims, Atlanta, Ga.” Help a High School Student Discover Messiah College This is the time in the admissions cycle when high school seniors make application to colleges and juniors begin to plan their college visits. Someone you know would thrive at Messiah, where intellect, character and faith are central to our mission. Please take a moment now to refer names of promising students from your church or area here: http://www.messiah.edu/offices/alumni/support_messiah/student_referral.html . Remembering Two Former Staff Members After a courageous bout with cancer, Dr. Donna Dentler died peacefully in her San Diego home on December 10. From 1979-1997, Donna served Messiah College in various roles as director of career development and internship programs, associate dean for community educational services, and as associate dean for international programs. Ms. Sara Herr, a 1940 Messiah alumna, died Sunday, December 11, at the United Christian Church Home in Annville, Pa. Sara worked at the college for 36 years as a teacher and served as registrar for a time. Please remember the family and friends of these two faithful Messiah servants in your prayers.
