A Family Affair: Continuing a Messiah Legacy through the Alumni Centennial Challenge

For Sally Hoober, current Messiah College Trustee, supporting the Alumni Centennial Challenge was a given. The mother of three Messiah College alumni, Sally sees first-hand the impact of a Messiah College education for her children, Chuck Hoober ’86, Scott Hoober ’89 and Lauri (Hoober) Lefever ’92. “Messiah gave Chuck and Scott ideas and skills that have helped them contribute toward advancing our family’s business,” Sally says. “In addition, I am proud that all three of my children are active in their churches and demonstrate a commitment to Christian education in their own children’s lives. I credit Messiah College for giving them the support and love of friends and caring professors that have helped them become who they are today.”
The Alumni Centennial Challenge will match new and increased gifts from alumni, up to $1,000 per alum during the College’s Centennial year, ending June 30, 2010. When asked why Sally is passionate about offering this Challenge with her fellow Trustees, she replied, “I believe alumni, including my own children, should give back to the institution that has given them so much. It’s really a requirement we have as Christians to recognize the value of what we’ve been given and help perpetuate that for others.” She adds, “Today’s students need to be influenced by professors with the moral values that are so necessary in today’s world. Alumni can help to keep the cost of a Messiah education affordable through their gifts so that more students can receive a Messiah education.”
Gifts to Messiah College make a world of difference for students and alumni who make a difference in the world. To participate in the Alumni Centennial Challenge, visit www.messiah.edu/gifts or contact Rachel Pease, director of annual giving, at 717-796-5066 or RPease@messiah.edu.
