Worshipping through Giving: One Trustee’s Perspective on the Alumni Centennial Challenge

Lindy Hustedt

In November 2009, the Messiah College Board of Trustees announced a $100,000 Alumni Centennial Challenge for Messiah’s annual fund. The challenge will match new and increased gifts from alumni (up to $100 per alum) and was created to encourage more alumni to support the College during our Centennial year and begin a habit of giving that will continue each year.

Messiah Trustee Linden Hustedt is excited to participate in providing the Alumni Centennial Challenge. He says, “I’m an optimistic person by nature. When I hear that only 1 out of 5 alumni give to Messiah in a given year, I’m not discouraged. Instead, I see the possibility of what will be when we inspire more alumni to give. I see it as an act of worship that gives alumni an opportunity to invest in the significant work that Messiah does every day in influencing our world for Christ.”

When successfully completed, the Challenge will provide $200,000 (or more) in new or increased gifts to the annual fund, which will make a world of difference for our students who make a difference in the world.

Messiah Responds to Earthquake Devastation in Haiti

Haiti Flag In the late afternoon on January 12, a powerful earthquake struck Haiti, destroying much of the capital and surrounding area, leaving thousands missing or dead and countless others homeless and without resource.  Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, and does not have the infrastructure or resources to handle a crisis of this magnitude. We believe it is our Christian responsibility to pray for and support the Haitian people in their time of distress, and are currently partnering with Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) to raise funds that will immediately and effectively respond to this emergency.  Read more: Ways the Messiah community and you can help.
