Sandra Williams Graduated: May, 1989 ![]() After graduation I worked in a small suburban Philadelphia hospital on the perinatal unit. I obtained a lot of experience in all areas of maternity nursing. I enjoyed my job, but after a year of employment my marriage took me to North Carolina . My next job was with a birthing center at Rex Hospital in Raleigh , NC . For two years I worked along side many obstetricians and nurse-midwives. One particular nurse-midwife encouraged me to apply for the nurse-midwifery program that would soon begin in the eastern part of our state. I gave it some thought and applied. After working for a summer at University of Virginia ’s medical center in Charlottesville , VA , I was accepted into East Carolina University ’s Masters of Science/Certified Nurse-Midwifery program. The two year program was very intense, but all and more than I had hoped for. We were able to work with women in Public Health Departments, military hospitals, and university clinics as well. The exposure I had to obstetrics, gynecology and women’s health issues was invaluable. Shortly after I graduated I had our first child, Jared. I decided to put my career on hold and raise my children. I haven’t regretted my decision one bit. I now have four children whom I homeschool. I am very thankful for my education and the experience that I have gained. Both have given me confidence in raising and teaching my children. They have also given me career choices to look forward to once my children have grown. God has blessed me richly and I am thankful for his provision in all of my life. |
