Marilyn Wolgemuth Employer: Parish Nursing, Shalom Mennonite Church Graduated: May, 1971 ![]() My nursing career has taken many twists and turns in the last 34 years! My husband Carl and I continued working with Wycliffe Bible Translators among the Aztec-speaking people group in Veracruz , Mexico , where I had many opportunities for medical work in very primitive conditions. I then worked at Wycliffe's international center in Dallas , TX , where I coordinated a health team that provided services to returning and out-going missionaries in many foreign countries. In that job, my training with tropical disease medicine came in handy. We resigned from WBT in 1981, and afterwards I worked in mental health nursing until I retired in 1996. Since then, I've been active as the coordinator of what is called Parish Nursing at our church, Shalom Mennonite Church , in Newton , KS . It is very rewarding to provide a holistic ministry that includes body, mind and spirit: personal health counseling, interpreting doctors' orders, medications, staying with members during their hospital stays, supporting them in prayer, providing a monthly blood pressure check, and many other services to our members. With an emphasis on illness prevention and healthy lifestyles, we provide educational events, also. |
