“It gave me a new perspective,” Brandon Rush says of his internship. “I went into the job idealistically, and being in the field showed me what it’s really like as well.” Brandon’s internship seemed to be a mismatch: he was an art major interning at Hershey Medical Center. But for Brandon, the graphic design work he completed for the center’s Biomedical Communications subdivision was invaluable. “It taught me the professional aspect of the field, gave me time to work on my artistic materials, and provided me with a mentor,” he asserts. Brandon, now an art designer and production coordinator for the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities, credits his internship with initiating him into the field of graphic design: “To see professionals in their career field gave me an understanding of what design is.”
