With the assistance of the Student Philanthropy Council, the Class of 2014 has established the Class of 2014 Textbook Scholarship. This one time scholarship will be awarded to an incoming student in the fall of 2011 on a need basis.
Members of the Student Philanthropy Council will be collecting spare change to help support this scholarship on April 18th, 19th, and 20th in Witmer Residence, Naugle Residence, and Hess Residence.
Remember those piggy banks you were given as welcome gift in the fall? You can donate the change in your bank. Or you can donate any spare change you have in your pocket, your wallet, a coffee mug sitting on your desk, or the pennies that may have dropped on your floor.
The amount of the Class of 2014 Textbook Scholarship will be determined by the amount of money raised by first year students, but we haven’t set a dollar goal. Instead, we are asking that 100% of the Class of 2014 make a gift - in any amount - to this scholarship. That’s because when everyone gives, their collective gift can make a big difference!
Making a gift is your chance to pay forward the generosity that has been bestowed upon you as a student. That’s why we are asking that 100% of the Class of 2014 donate their spare change. And, as an added incentive to make a gift, the Student Philanthropy Council will host an ice cream social for the dorm with the highest participation level. That means number of donors, not dollars!
If you weren’t in your dorm when we came around, you can still donate your spare change. Download the gift form and deliver it to Old Main 325 or send it via campus mail to Box 3013, Attention Ashley Martin.
Update: The Class of 2014 raised over $200, almost entirely in spare change. An incoming student will be awarded these funds to help offset the cost of textbooks in the fall of 2011.
