Anthony J. Schiano
President of Giant Foods
Anthony J. Schiano has developed a distinguished record of accomplishments
during this 30 year career in food retailing. He joined The Stop &
Shop Companies in 1973 where he held various management assignments of
increasing responsibility within the Human Resources and Store Operations
functions.
Schiano joined the Ahold USA organization in 1981 when he was appointed
Director, Human Resources at Giant Food Stores in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
He was promoted to Vice President, Human Resources at Giant in 1982. In
1987, Schiano was appointed Executive Vice President, Human Resources
at Bi-Lo, Inc., in Mauldin, South Carolina and became Executive Vice President,
Store Operations in 1989. Mr. Schiano was appointed Executive Vice President
and Chief Operating Officer of Edwards Super Food Stores in January 1993
and became President and chief Executive Office of Edwards on September
1, 1993.
On January 1, 1997, Tony Schiano became President and Chief Executive
Office of Giant Food Stores. In 2003, another Ahold Company, Tops Markets,
based in Buffalo, New York, was merged into Giant Food Stores. Schiano
is now the CEO of the combined organization comprised of over 260 stores
in six states, with 40,000 associates and sales of $6.0 billion. Giant
operates under the banners of Giant Food Stores, Martin’s Food Markets,
and Tops Markets.
Tony Schiano is a native of New England and graduated summa cum laude
from Boston College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, and is
a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Schiano has been dedicated
to playing active leadership roles in serving the community and responding
to the needs of children and feeding the hungry. Schiano currently serves
as a member of the Retail Advisory Board of the Children’s Miracle
Network (CMN), is a Vice Chairman of the Board of St. Joseph’s Academy
of Food Marketing, Vice Chairman of the Board of Economics Pennsylvania,
and Chair of the Board of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Pennsylvania.
He is also a founder and director of Integrity Bank.
