Excellence in Food Safety Award 2007, 2011

It’s a repeat! Messiah College’s Dining Services has once again been awarded an Excellence in Food Safety recognition by the Pennsylvania Restaurant Association. Dining Services also received the award in 2007.

The letter of recognition reads, “Due to outstanding efforts taken by you, your employees and students in food safety and sanitation, Messiah College Dining Services has been chosen as a winner for the 9th Annual PRA Excellence in Food Safety Award. You are a credit to your industry and your association.”

Our Commitment to our Customers

Food safety is our paramount guiding principle. Dining Services believes a customer's         well-being comes first and has established food safety as its paramount guiding principle.  A comprehensive food safety plan has been developed and implemented to help prevent foodborne illnesses.

HACCP program. In 2006, Dining Services developed and implemented an extensive Hazard  Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) program.  HACCP is a program that analyzes all    aspects of the production of food and sets up safeguards to ensure that food is safe.  A HACCP program is considered the best way the industry has of ensuring that the food production process is the safest it can be.  In designing this program, Dining Services worked extensively with the PA Department of Agriculture.  Each food handler of the Dining Team is ServSafe and HACCP certified.

Training. As part of our commitment to food safety, we have also created an in-house training program.  The Director of Dining Services is a certified ServSafe instructor who conducts training     for all full-time dining associates.
