Parent Resources
Not long ago my wife and I sat watching our second (and last) daughter graduate from college. It’s hard to believe that, when I first began working in this position at Messiah, we had no children, and now we’ve seen them both grow up, graduate from high school and college, and leave home. My experience with Messiah College students as well as with my own children has given me a perspective on both the experience of a student in college, and that of the parent of college students. I greatly value what I have learned, and I trust our students and their parents can benefit, as well.
Members of our counseling and health staff have long been caring for students and advising their parents in person and on the phone. We have decided that it is time to add a new channel of communication by specifically addressing parents in a section of our web site, called “Parent Resources.”
We see education as an important part of the mission of the Engle Center for Counseling and Health Services. As we have sought new ways of getting our message out to students, we realize that you are an important ally in the educational process. Students trust their parents’ advice—much more so than they sometimes admit. So if we can arm you with the resources that will help you work with your child, we all win! Here you will find content that is aimed at helping you adjust to your new role in life and at helping you understand the changes your child is going through. We also provide you with much information about the kinds of issues that face many young people during their college years. Sometimes parents take the time to read things their kids won’t, and the kids are happy to get the “condensed version” from mom and dad!
Our website includes a great deal of information on what counseling and health services are available to students through the Engle Center as well as information on a variety of topics, such as depression, relationships, medical information, etc. and we invite you to browse our site using the navigation links at the left. In addition to this we also have some information that is of particular interest to parents and you'll see a list of articles and other resources in the navigations links on the right side of this page.
